Our association was founded on November 13th, 1949. At that time the union included 22 pilots from Aero Oy, which later became known as Finnair. Nowadays our union has nearly 1000 members (Jan 2020), mainly Finnair pilots. In addition to that we also have over 400 retired senior members.
At the constituting meeting of SLL the base for the union work was laid. In the bylaws of our union it is stated that the union collects its members into a solid professional union, takes care of and controls the negotiations and supervision of the salaries, benefits and working conditions as well as other industrial issues for its members. Furthermore, SLL actively participates in the development of flight safety and pilots working conditions worldwide.
Our union has more than 70 volunteer members who actively participate in the various jobs in the association. Without their effort our union wouldn’t thrive. Finnish Air Line Pilots’ Association closely cooperates with Finnish Pilots’ Association, through which we have our membership of ECA (European Cockpit Association) and IFALPA (International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations).
